In this first of two videos, I show the steps I go through to build a neck for a steel string guitar. This first segment shows me squaring the wood with a plane to level the fretboard surface, rough cutting the profile and smoothing the peghead surface, and cutting the truss rod channel. I demonstrate how two-way truss rods work to counter string tension and I describe the style of truss rod that I am using, which has a T-piece welded to the end in order to keep the rod from pushing on the bottom of the channel in the neck.
