【筑前山歩】許斐山をゆく。｜衣笠茸と黒蘭、三座を歩く。｜Bamboo Mushrooms and Wild Orchids on the Low Mountains of Munakata

このみ公園に車を停めると、まず犬を散歩させているご夫婦とすれ違った。低い山だから、と侮ってはいけない。許斐山、尾立山、千歩山と三つの名前がついているだけあって、道はこまめに曲がり、こまめに登り下りする。まるで箱庭の庭園のように。 案内看板が一枚立っている。大治五年に宗像の大宮司が築いた城は、四百年足らずで落城し、再興し、また廃れた。そんな栄枯盛衰を、案内板はやけにあっさりと書いてある。人の一生も、案外そんなものかもしれない。 梅雨どきにはキヌガサタケが顔を出すという。朝に開き、昼にはもう萎れてしまう茸だそうで、見にいくなら早起きが肝心らしい。せっかちな茸である。そのそばに、コクランという地味な蘭がひっそり咲いていた。目立たないことにかけては、こちらの方が年季が入っている。 三座を歩き終えて振り返ると、汗はかいたが、疲れたという感じはしない。低い山というのは、そういうところが好きだ。 Park the car at Konomi Park and the first thing you'll pass is a couple walking their dog — proof enough that this isn't a serious mountain. Don't be fooled, though. Three names — Konomiyama, Odate, Senbu — mean three humps, and the path turns and climbs and dips like a long conversation full of little nods. Near the summit sits a single signboard where a castle used to be. Built in 1130 by the Munakata clan, it fell, was rebuilt, and fell again within four centuries — all summarized with a breeziness that made me wonder if a human life amounts to much more. Come the rainy season, a mushroom called kinugasa-take pushes up through the leaf litter. It opens at dawn and wilts by noon, so seeing it properly means getting up early — an impatient sort of fungus. Nearby, a modest little orchid called kokuran keeps to itself. If not standing out is a skill, that one has clearly had more practice. By the time the three peaks were behind us, I'd worked up a sweat but not much of a complaint.
