In this deeply detailed and enlightening talk for #SarmayaSnippets, Prof Hardy builds a mammoth temple out of architectural drawings and standing stone, like a magician. We are at a particularly striking, unfinished temple in #Bhojpur, which if it had been built to completion would have dwarfed the #BrihadeeshwaraTemple in #Thanjavur. We love how Prof Hardy pieces together parts of the existing structure and the original architectural drawings to create a monumental temple somewhat like a jigsaw puzzle. Adam Hardy is the author of several books including, ‘Theory and Practice of Temple Architecture in Medieval India: Bhoja's 'Samarāṅgaṇasūtradhāra'’ and the ‘Bhojpur Line Drawings’ (New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts with Dev Publications, 2015). He is Emeritus Professor of Asian Architecture at the Welsh School of Architecture in #Cardiff University. He’s also the founder and director of PRASADA, focused on the Practice, Research and Advancement in South Asian Design and #Architecture. Professor Hardy’s main expertise is in the history and theory of architecture, settlement and art of #SouthAsia.
