🚂 An epic crowd packed into downtown Springfield for 30 minutes with a steam locomotive — and it was worth every second.
On July 18, 2026, Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, rolled into the Amtrak Depot on Washington Street as part of its Coast-to-Coast Tour celebrating America's 250th birthday. Riding right behind it: No. 1616, Union Pacific's newest commemorative locomotive, painted to honor Abraham Lincoln — the president who signed the law that created Union Pacific in the first place.
There's something fitting about the Lincoln Locomotive rolling into the exact city where Lincoln lived before he was elected president and left for Washington. This video captures the whole moment — the arrival, the nonstop whistle blasts, the roar of the crowd, and the departure as fans cheered Big Boy back onto the rails.

ABOUT BIG BOY 4014
Built in 1941 to haul war supplies over Utah's Wasatch mountains. Retired in 1961 after logging over a million miles. Restored and back on the rails since 2019. Only 8 of the original 25 Big Boys survive today, and 4014 is the only one still running.
