For years, Duane "Keffe D" Davis told the story of the night Tupac Shakur was shot: to police detectives in 2008, on BET's Death Row Chronicles in 2018, in his 2019 memoir Compton Street Legend, and in hours of YouTube interviews. Then, from jail, he said: "I shouldn't have said nothing." On August 31, 2026, a Las Vegas jury convicted him of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon after less than three hours of deliberation, and on October 13 he was sentenced to 40 years to life. This episode walks through exactly what he said, when, and how those words reached the jury.
How to read this video:
CONFIRMED = court record and on-record statements
REPORTED = details from established outlets
CLAIMED = Davis's own later account (presented at trial and rejected by the jury)
UNKNOWN = questions no one has answered yet
Important: Davis was not accused of firing the shots; prosecutors said he provided the gun. He maintains his innocence and has said he will appeal. His defense argued his past statements were made for money and notoriety. Reggie Wright Jr., named by the defense as an alternative suspect, has denied any involvement.
