Dr.K. J. Yesudas – Classical Music Live Programme Vol. 1 | Carnatic Concert

Experience the timeless brilliance of K. J. Yesudas in this rare Classical Music Live Programme, where the purity of Carnatic music meets the extraordinary vocal artistry of one of India’s most celebrated singers. This collection offers a glimpse into Yesudas’s command of classical music—his remarkably controlled voice, precise pronunciation, effortless movement through melodic phrases, and ability to bring both raga and lyrical expression together with remarkable naturalness. What makes a performance like this especially fascinating is the sense of musical discipline behind every phrase. Yesudas never treats a composition merely as a song to be sung; each line is shaped with attention to raga, tala, diction, tonal colour, breath, pitch and emotional expression. His voice remains deeply expressive while maintaining the structural beauty of the classical tradition. The programme features compositions presented with the support of an accomplished classical ensemble: 🎻 Violin: Prof. M. Subramanya Sharma 🥁 Mridangam: Mavelikkara Krishnankutty Nair 🥁 Ghatam: V. Karthikeyan 1. Karunai Kedale Ragam: Hamsadhwani Thalam: Adi 2. Janaki Ramana Ragam: Shudhaseemandini Thalam: Adi 3. Vanee Vegadeeswari Ragam: Vegadeeswari Thalam: Roopakam 4. Upacharamuje Seva Ragam: Bhairavi Thalam: Roopakam 5. Kannanei Kandayo Ragam: Sindhubhairavi These compositions reveal different facets of Yesudas’s classical musicianship—from the bright and energetic character of Hamsadhwani, to the depth of Bhairavi, the distinctive colour of Vegadeeswari, and the expressive beauty of Sindhubhairavi. There is also something particularly special about hearing Yesudas in a live classical setting. Away from the elaborate production of film music, the listener can appreciate the singer himself—the voice, the raga, the sahitya and the interaction between vocalist and accompanying musicians. Yesudas has always possessed the rare ability to make technically demanding music feel natural to the listener. His voice can move from powerful classical passages to delicate expressions without losing its characteristic warmth. Every note carries clarity, while every phrase seems carefully placed. For generations of listeners, performances such as this have helped demonstrate that classical music need not remain distant or inaccessible. In the hands of a great musician, its sophistication can coexist beautifully with emotional immediacy. This is Yesudas the classical vocalist—focused, disciplined, expressive and completely immersed in music. 🎶 Listen with headphones for the finest appreciation of the vocal nuances, raga passages and accompanying instruments.
