August 17 2026 Day 4 WY BDR Section 2 Centennial to Elk Mtn

After a restful night in Centennial, WY, we loaded up to begin Section 2 of the WY BDR the morning of August 17, 2026. Section 2 is 68 miles from Centennial, WY to Elk Mountain, WY. We began ascending into the Snowy Range Mountains in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest on pavement for a short time but quickly turned on dirt roads before returning to the paved roads. After some stops at scenic viewpoints along the way we began descending and then turned back on dirt roads. We continued along easy dirt roads until we came into Elk Mountain. After a stop to look around Elk Mountain we continued to the gas station outside of town along I-80 to refuel. As with any adventure ride, you learn to expect the unexpected. After refueling, my Tuareg would not start, so we pulled around to the back of the station to begin problem solving. We determined the issue was most likely my starter had gone out. With some help from some fellow adventure riders, we were able to push jump my bike to get it started. We quickly put the luggage back on and then rode straight back via highway to Craig, CO, where we had parked the van. We ended up riding a total of 229.67 miles today between the BDR section and the trip back to Craig.
