Draupadi Mahotsav 2023, organized by Draupadi Dream Trust, featured Shri RS Fonia’s groundbreaking lecture on Kashmir Valley’s 5000-year-old civilizations. He showcased neolithic sites like Burzahom and Gufkral, Kareva formations, and trade links to Harappan and Central Asian cultures—revealing how this rich heritage remains absent from academic curricula.
The talk covered 50+ archaeological sites, tracing Kashmir’s shift from hunter-gatherers to agro-pastoral societies. It explored Nilamat Purana’s geological insights, Satisara lake legend, and material culture including pottery, metallurgy, and trade beads. Fonia also highlighted dating techniques, botanical studies with BSIP and Sydney University, and Kashmir’s timber trade with Harappan lands.
He addressed the "Ghor Kali Yuga" intellectual decline, research disruptions during the 1985–97 insurgency, and the urgent need to integrate Kashmir’s geo-cultural legacy into mainstream education
