Is your child bright, curious, and capable—but still struggling to read? Maeve talks with veteran teacher, tutor, and author Kathy Alford about children who may be described as dyslexic but whom Kathy calls full-field vision learners: children whose brains process visual information differently and who may not respond well to traditional early reading instruction. Kathy shares the deeply personal story of her own daughter’s reading struggles, the frustration she felt even as an experienced teacher, and the decision to leave her classroom and homeschool her child while searching for methods that would finally work. They discuss why some struggling readers reverse letters, lose their place on the page, or have difficulty moving smoothly from left to right—and why none of those struggles mean that a child is unintelligent, lazy, or unmotivated. Kathy also offers hope and practical insight for parents who are worried that their child is falling behind, including ways to protect a child’s confidence, recognize strengths beyond reading, and work with the remarkable brain God gave them. A child who learns differently is not a failed learner. Sometimes the method needs to change—not the child. #Podcast #catholic #homeschooling #homeschool #dyslexia #fullfieldvision Homeschooling for Catholic Parents Academic Planner-- https://catholichomeschoolplanner.com https://maevejemison.com Show Notes: In this episode, we mention: Kathleen Alford’s book: Say Goodbye to Dyslexia and Embrace Fulfill Vision Learning Kathleen’s website: fullfieldvisionlearning.com Free downloadable Au-Vi-T-ECK cards and other resources available on Kathleen’s website https://maevejemison.com/ Purchase my book: Home Is Where The Truth Is https://www.amazon.com/Home-Where-Tru...
