LITTLE BIGHORN 1876: The Hour That Swallowed Custer's Command
On a June afternoon in 1876, five companies of the Seventh Cavalry rode onto the ridges above the Little Bighorn River and were never seen alive again. This is the real story behind that hour. It runs from a blacksmith's son in Ohio to a gold strike in the Black Hills, a broken treaty, and the largest village the northern plains had ever seen. It's told through the written record, the battlefield archaeology, and the Lakota and Cheyenne accounts.
