Starting Over After 50 | 4 Days, My Dog & 1,800 Miles

Four days. Nearly 1,800 miles. Florida to Colorado with my dog, my Jeep, and a whole lot of road ahead of us. But this trip is about more than getting to Denver. I’m 50-something, starting over, and I don’t exactly know what comes next. Right now, what comes next is getting on the road and seeing where this new chapter takes me. There are long driving days, questionable road-trip meals, unexpected stops, and plenty of moments where I’m figuring it out as I go. Maybe that’s the point. Hi, friend. The Polzin Project is about figuring out what comes next—and building a life worth exploring. I’m Heather, a Gen Xer starting over after 50, at a point in life when I really thought I’d have things figured out by now. Instead, I’ve found myself beginning again in ways I never expected. But I’m also realizing there’s a whole lot of life still ahead of me—and I get to decide what I want to do with it. So I’m figuring it out as I go—challenging myself to say yes to things I might have said no to before, taking the road trips, trying new things, creating a home, and deciding what I really want this next chapter to look like. You’ll find a little bit of everything along the way—solo road trips with my dog, Jeep adventures, travel, DIY projects, and the everyday wins and mishaps that come with starting over.
