हिरण्यवर्णां हरिणीं सुवर्णरजतस्रजाम् । चन्द्रां हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मी ञ्जातवेदो म आवह ॥ Sri Suktam (Śrī Sūktam): the Vedic hymn to Śrī Mahālakṣmī, chanted with svaras (Vedic accents), with its traditional phalaśruti, the Mahālakṣmī Gāyatrī and Śānti. The Devanāgarī and IAST text, with matching svara markings, are shown on screen verse by verse so you can follow along and chant with us. 🕉 SOURCE • Veda: Ṛgveda, Khilāni (the supplementary hymns of the Ṛgveda). Śrī Sūktam is Khila 2.6, placed after Maṇḍala 5, Sūkta 87. It is preserved in the Śākala tradition. • Ṛks 1–15 form the Sūkta proper. Ṛk 16 (यः शुचिः प्रयतो भूत्वा) is its traditional phalaśruti, and the verses that follow are the customary concluding stuti, the Mahālakṣmī Gāyatrī and the Śānti, as chanted in our tradition. • Ṛṣi (seers): Ānanda, Kardama, Ciklīta and Śrīda (Indirāsuta), the sons of Śrī | Devatā (deity): Śrī (Lakṣmī), with Jātavedas (Agni) | Chandas (metre): mainly Anuṣṭubh, with Bṛhatī (ṛk 4), Triṣṭubh (ṛks 5–6) and Prastārapaṅkti (ṛk 15) 🪔 ESSENTIAL MEANING The seer calls upon Jātavedas (Agni, the knower of all) to bring Śrī into his life: golden-hued and radiant like the moon, adorned with garlands of gold and silver, seated on the lotus, lotus-hued, delighted by the trumpeting of elephants, and never departing. He prays that Alakṣmī (want, hunger, thirst, misfortune and all that is inauspicious) be driven from the home, and that Śrī dwell there as Mother: bringing nourishment, fame, truthful speech, the fulfilment of the heart's good wishes, health, abundance and well-being for the whole family. Kardama and Ciklīta, the sons of Śrī, are asked to make their Mother live in the devotee's house. The phalaśruti teaches that one who is pure and devoted, and chants these fifteen ṛks with offerings day after day, is blessed by Śrī. The later verses add that in those who chant the Śrī Sūktam, anger, envy, greed and ill-will do not arise. Śrī is not only wealth but all that is auspicious, abundant and beautiful, outwardly and inwardly. ⏱ CHAPTERS 0:00 Opening 0:39 Śrī Sūktam, ṛks 1–15 5:22 Phalaśruti and stuti, verses 16–25 8:10 Mahālakṣmī Gāyatrī, verses 26–28 9:00 Śānti and closing ▶ THE "SUKTAMS" PLAYLIST Watch all our Suktams (Sūktāni):    • Suktams | Sūktāni   🌸 ABOUT सर्वमङ्गलनादम् (SarvaMaṅgalaNādam) Study authentic Vedic chanting, Samskrutam pronunciation, Vedic recitation, and the living oral tradition of the Vedas at सर्वमङ्गलनादम् (SarvaMaṅgalaNādam). सर्वमङ्गलनादम् (SarvaMaṅgalaNādam) means "The Sound of Universal Auspiciousness."
