Does Central North Carolina actually exist? It's not on the official map, its "center" is a community called Gulf, and nobody has ever said "I'm proud to be from Central NC." So we put it on trial with five tests: the map, the center, the flavor, the mountains, and the name. The verdict might surprise you, because the middle of the state gave us Cheerwine, Krispy Kreme, a mountain range that once scraped the sky, and a lunch counter that changed the country. ⏱ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 Does the middle of NC even exist? 0:42 Test 1: The map (Piedmont, Murphy to Manteo) 1:42 Test 2: The center (Gulf and Erect, NC) 2:39 Test 3: The flavor (Cheerwine, Krispy Kreme, the ketchup war) 4:34 Test 4: The mountains (the Uwharries) 5:30 Test 5: The name (Triangle, Triad, and the Boombelt) 6:31 Bonus stop: Greensboro, February 1960 7:10 outro 💬 YOUR TURN What do you call where you're from: the Triangle, the Triad, the Sandhills, or "basically Charlotte"? Tell me in the comments.
