I Want To Break Free: Everybody Carries Something

September 13, 2026 Pastor Nate Drye "If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36 NIV Freedom begins when I stop pretending I'm fine and bring what binds me into the light. “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NRSV Pride teaches us to hide what we carry. Pride would rather manage an image than confess a need. What remains hidden or unacknowledged remains unsurrendered. When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down.
