In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view from Miramas to Marseille Saint-Charles in 4K/60 frames per second. Miramas station sits at a junction where the Paris–Marseille main line meets branch lines towards Martigues and Salon-de-Provence, making it a natural gathering point for regional services across the Bouches-du-Rhône. From here the journey follows the Ligne de Miramas à l'Estaque southward, tracing a corridor that has carried traffic since the first section of the Paris–Marseille railway opened in 1847. Those early tracks, initially operated by separate companies, were consolidated into the Chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée — the PLM — in 1857, a network that would later become known as the Imperial Line through its association with Napoleon III. Leaving Miramas, the line passes through Istres and skirts the fringes of the Fos-sur-Mer industrial zone before reaching the coast at Port-de-Bouc, where the 942-metre Caronte Viaduct carries the train across the channel linking the Étang de Berre to the sea. Martigues follows, and beyond it the route grows increasingly demanding, threading through a succession of tunnels and viaducts along the limestone Côte Bleue — structures including the 800-metre Sausset Tunnel and the l'Aigle Viaduct at 228 metres — with calls at Sausset-les-Pins, Carry-le-Rouet, La Redonne-Ensuès, and Niolon before the line descends to L'Estaque. At L'Estaque the Ligne de L'Estaque à Marseille-Saint-Charles takes over for the final approach into the city, passing through the Consolat and Calade tunnels before emerging alongside the port district and the Arenc-Euroméditerranée quarter. Marseille Saint-Charles station, which opened on 8 January 1848 and is perched on a small hill above the city centre, receives the train with 14 terminal platforms electrified at 1500 V DC — a terminus that contrasts sharply with the open lagoon shores and coastal cliffs encountered during the 71.2 km from Miramas.
