*From Emergency Response to Sustainable Immunization: The Experience of Northwest Syria*
How did the immunization programme in Northwest Syria evolve and continue delivering essential vaccination services despite years of conflict and humanitarian challenges?
In this episode of *Let's Talk Public Health**, we welcome **Yasser* to reflect on the evolution of the immunization programme in Northwest Syria, beginning with the response to the 2013 polio outbreak, followed by the establishment and strengthening of routine immunization services, and the ongoing transition of responsibilities to the Syrian Ministry of Health.
The discussion explores the role of the **Syrian Immunization Group (SIG)**, collaboration with WHO and UNICEF, and the operational challenges of maintaining cold-chain systems, securing funding, managing human resources, and ensuring continuity of immunization data in a conflict-affected setting.
It also highlights the contribution of local leadership, community mobilization, door-to-door vaccination campaigns, and digital tools in supporting vaccination activities and improving programme reach.
Through reflections from participants, the session examines the lessons learned, remaining challenges, and opportunities for developing a unified national immunization policy, strengthening programme sustainability, and ensuring equitable access to vaccines across Syria.
*Beyond documenting a public health experience, this conversation offers lessons for rebuilding Syria's health system and strengthening locally led health services in fragile and conflict-affected settings.*
