In January 2020, Norton Motorcycles — the British legend founded in 1898, the brand that dominated the Isle of Man TT and built 100,000 bikes for the war effort — collapsed into administration. Its owner stood accused of raiding £11 million of pensioners' money to keep it alive. Customers who had paid deposits got nothing. Then the buyer nobody expected stepped in: TVS Motor Company, from Chennai, India. It paid just £16 million. It kept Norton in Britain, built a brand-new factory in Solihull, honoured the old customers' orders, and rebuilt the bikes properly. Today TVS has invested over £200 million into Norton, unveiled four all-new models at EICMA 2025 — including the 206hp Manx R superbike — and plans 200 dealers worldwide and 20,000 bikes a year. This is the story of how India rescued one of Britain's greatest names — and what it means for the future of the motorcycle industry. Question for you: Which fallen legend should India rescue next?
