Title: Berceuse de Jocelyn AKA: Angels Guard Thee Composer: Benjamin Goddard Arrangement; Alexander Owen Genre: Trombone Solo Soloist: Frank Crofts Band: Besses o’ th’ Barn Conductor: Frank Bryce Venue: Utrecht, Holland Broadcast: Radio Hilversum Year: 1972 The "Berceuse de Jocelyn", universally known in the English-speaking world as "Angels Guard Thee", is a deeply lyrical 1888 composition by French composer Benjamin Godard (often spelled Goddard). Originally written as an opera tenor aria ("Cachés dans cet asile") for his opera Jocelyn, its sweeping, emotional melody has made it an enduring classic showcase piece for the trombone solo, particularly within the British brass band tradition. The trombone's warm, vocal-like quality is perfectly suited for Godard's lullaby, bridging the gap between operatic passion and the rich texture of a brass ensemble. This arrangement is by Alexander Owen composed during his 36 year tenure as Besses o’ th’ Barn Band MD (1884-1920
