Somewhere along the journey, many of us began to believe that stopping meant failing. But even the wind cannot cross every mountain without finding a quiet valley in which to breathe. The Place Where the Wind Rests is a shamanic folk song for anyone who has carried exhaustion as if it were proof of strength. Rest does not steal your path. Sometimes, it is the place where your strength quietly returns. LYRICS: [Intro] Across the ice, across the stone, The north wind wandered all alone. It crossed the pine, it crossed the crest, And never knew a place of rest. [Verse 1] It pushed the clouds beyond the hill, It shook the branches at its will. It crossed the valleys, cold and wide, But never laid its breath aside. “To stop,” it thought, “would make me weak. I am the voice the tall trees speak. I was not born to lose my way Inside the silence of one place.” [Pre-Chorus] Then between two ancient slopes, A quiet meadow called it low: [Chorus] Even the wind must find a place To lay its head and slow its pace. No living thing was born to run Forever underneath the sun. Rest is not the end of flight, Nor does the valley steal the sky. The wind grows strong by lying still Before it climbs another hill. [Verse 2] At first it circled through the green, Afraid of what the calm might mean. But no tree tried to hold it there. No mountain closed the open air. The grass received its weary breath. The river sang beneath its rest. And for the first time in its flight, The wind grew quiet through the night. [Pre-Chorus] Then the valley softly said: “You have not failed by resting here.” [Chorus] Even the wind must find a place To lay its head and slow its pace. No living thing was born to run Forever underneath the sun. Rest is not the end of flight, Nor does the valley steal the sky. The wind grows strong by lying still Before it climbs another hill. [Bridge] There is no shame in quiet air. No broken road in resting there. The river pauses in the lake. The seed lies still before it wakes. The moon grows dark before it shines. The winter sleeps beneath the pines. And all that rises learns to know: There is a time to stop and grow. [Verse 3] At dawn, the wind began to rise, With cedar breath beneath the sky. It left the valley, not in fear, But carrying the silence near. It crossed the ridge and touched the snow, No longer fleeing where it’d go. For those who rest when rest is due Return with strength they never knew. [Final Chorus] Even the wind must find a place To lay its head and slow its pace. No living thing was born to run Forever underneath the sun. Rest is not the end of flight, Nor does the valley steal the sky. The wind grows strong by lying still Before it climbs another hill. [Final] The valley never stopped the wind. It taught the wind that rest is also part of the journey. Even what was born to wander needs somewhere... to breathe. 🌲 If this song found you at the right moment, consider subscribing and joining this circle for more original shamanic folk music.
