Carlotta - Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter 1965

This 8mm film is of the Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter 'Carlotta' being rigged for the season's cruising. The film was shot by Don Cowling over Easter 1965, Carlotta was owned by Dick and Nellie Twist of St. Anthony, Cornwall from 1942 until 1970. The house is Elwynick in the hamlet of Borhortha, St. Anthony's on the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall. The two young men in the film were French friends of Dick and Nellie. The one up the mast is Gerard D'aboville. See the Carlotta history for a reference to him and the ship in a bottle he gave to Dick in 1963. Gerard was a regular visitor to Elwynick and Dick was very fond of him. Gerard loved Carlotta. Gerard D'aboville went on to become a celebrated yachtsman in France. He wrote books and he took part in internationally celebrated yacht races including I think a single handed circumnavigation. What a lovely shot of Dick grinning into the camera as we left Place Manor. Carlotta is currently being lovingly restored by Barbra and Stephen Mohan based in British Columbia.
