SE7EN (1995) REACTION | MRLBOYD REACTS | WHAT'S IN THE BOX?! | FIRST TIME

Se7en (1995) reaction and first-time watching commentary from The Film Perspective. MRLBOYD watches Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman investigate a serial killer who constructs seven horrifying crimes around the seven deadly sins. Directed by David Fincher, Se7en stars Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Spacey, R. Lee Ermey, and John C. McGinley. Detective William Somerset is preparing to retire when impulsive young detective David Mills transfers into the city and becomes his replacement. After discovering two elaborately staged murder scenes representing gluttony and greed, the detectives realize they are pursuing a methodical killer determined to complete a seven-part masterpiece. This movie reaction covers Somerset and Mills becoming reluctant partners, the gluttony crime scene, the lawyer forced to represent greed, Somerset researching the seven deadly sins, the horrifying discovery of the sloth victim, the library-record investigation, finding John Doe’s apartment, the hallway chase, the lust and pride murders, John Doe unexpectedly surrendering, his demand to lead the detectives to the final two victims, the delivery van approaching in the desert, Somerset opening the box, Doe revealing his envy, Mills becoming wrath, and the devastating final quotation. Did John Doe ultimately win, or did Somerset’s decision to remain involved prevent his plan from being a complete victory? When did you first suspect that the final sin would involve Detective Mills?
