Why did humans start cooking their food?
A chimpanzee spends about 6 hours a day chewing. You spend about one. The difference comes down to fire.
In this video, we travel back 780,000 years to an ancient lake in northern Israel, Gesher Benot Ya'aqov. There, early humans like Homo erectus left behind thousands of fish teeth and almost no bones. That is one of the oldest strong clues for cooking.
You'll learn:
→ How cooking unlocks more energy from meat, roots, and starch
→ What the fish teeth and the Klasies River Cave hearths tell us
→ Richard Wrangham's cooking hypothesis, and why some experts doubt it
→ How stone boiling worked before pots existed
→ Why cooked food may have shaped our small teeth, short guts, and big brains
→ Why humans today struggle to live on raw food alone
This is a story about early human evolution, prehistoric food, and the discovery of fire. It shows how one simple habit changed the human body forever.
