As global oil demand peaks and eventually declines, the challenge will not simply be reducing dependence on oil, but managing the geopolitical and economic consequences of that decline. In September 2026 E3G launched its new Oil Endgame report, which explores the risks facing oil-producing economies, the implications for major importers, and the international cooperation needed to support a more orderly transition. Bringing together experts from international organisations, academia and civil society, the launch webinar explored how declining oil demand could reshape economic resilience, energy security and geopolitical stability and what governments and international institutions can do to prepare.
