Prayer is not merely a way of asking God for what we want. Prayer is a relationship between God and us. It is the place where we come before Him with our whole heart, bringing our thoughts, struggles, tears, weaknesses, sins, desires, and deepest longings before Him. It is not wrong to ask God for our daily needs. We can bring every need and every concern before Him. But prayer is much more than asking for things. The greatest blessing of prayer is knowing God, walking with Him, seeking His will, and allowing Him to transform our hearts. In Proverbs 30:7 to 9, Agur asks God for two things before he dies. His prayer reveals a heart that does not want worldly wealth or poverty to take him away from God. He asks for what will help him remain faithful, truthful, dependent, and close to the Lord. In Luke 18:13, the tax collector stood at a distance, humbled by his sin. He could not even lift his eyes toward heaven. He came before God with a broken and humble heart and asked for mercy. His prayer teaches us that God desires humility and genuine repentance. This song brings these two prayers together and asks God for the same kind of heart. Lord, give me a heart that seeks You. Give me a life that follows Your will. Give me a heart that turns away from sin. Give me the humility to confess my sins and seek Your mercy. Teach me to pray not only when I need something, but because I desire You. Prayer leads us toward God. Prayer settles our hearts in His presence. Prayer gives words to our tears. Prayer teaches us to surrender our burdens. Prayer changes us even when our circumstances do not change. Prayer gives us strength when we are weak. Prayer lifts us when we fall. Prayer purifies our thoughts and transforms our desires according to God's will. So let us not kneel only to ask. Let us kneel because we desire to walk with God. Let us not raise our hands only for our needs. Let us raise our hands because we are seeking God Himself. Let us come before Him with humility. Let us confess our sins. Let us seek His grace. Let us seek His will. Let us remain close to Him in every situation. May God give each one of us a prayerful heart, a heart that seeks Him above everything, a heart that desires His presence, a heart that follows His will, and a heart that remains faithful to Him.
