Sorry for the annoying kid in the cabin with me. It was not my choice to ride with him!
New for 2025, the Mighty Argo Cable Car is a ten person gondola in Idaho Springs Colorado. It travels up the Virginia Canyon to the top of Santa Fe Mine Road, where there is a small restaurant and scenic lookout area at the top station. From the top station, riders can view the beautiful mountain ranges that line the i-70 corridor, and can even view a 14er and a nearby ski area, which is Mt. Blue Sky and Echo Mountain respectively. The main attraction for the Cable Car is the Virginia Canyon mountain bike park, which services many trails with varying degree of difficulty. Riders can choose to either bike up and ride down (free of charge) or pay to ride the gondola for 3 hour day passes. Overall, there are 15 miles of trails to choose from, and all end at the Argo Mine and Tunnel bottom station. As this is a soft opening of the gondola, there is still active construction around the top terminal, and why there is limited service at the top station as of uploading this video.
The Lift:
The newest D-Line built by Doppelmayr, the Mighty Argo is quite the build for 2025. Almost every feature on the gondola is the first of it's kind in North America, and even beats out Big Sky for some of the newer features being in operation. The Mighty Argo has 28 Omega V cabins with individual wooden seats. 22 of those are passenger cabins, 5 are bike cabs (the first of it's kind built in the states) and 1 cargo cab for shipments of food and other products. There are even some cabins with a see through plexiglass floor as well, although I don't know how many glass floor cabins there are. The bike cabins are by far the most impressive cabin design I've seen. In the center of a cabin shell, there is a center pole that rotates bike carriers around for bikes to load bikes. The bike contour turns around by a gear on the outside bottom rail, which propels the bike carriers around for ease of access. At both the top and bottom, both cabins can also stop in place for riders to load and unload their bikes, and also activates for foot passengers to unload as well.
The bottom terminal is also very unique and intricate in design. Supported by multiple ginormous concrete masts, the drive terminal sits nearly 3 stories above ground, and facilitates a mechanical bay, loading area, and ADA elevator. Since the bottom terminal needed to accommodate for space constraints around it's location, it is one of the shortest D-Line lifts ever built. Even the hold down towers are built on an impressively obtuse angle, as there a work road directly underneath. It is quite a sight to behold when one is looking across the river, as the bottom terminal completely towers over the town of Idaho Springs.
