Happy Chanukah! Chanukah began at sunset tonight, so for our first yarn we are going to dye a sunset colorway on KnitPicks Paragon Yarn http://shrsl.com/182cn (Affiliate Link) with solar dyeing techniques and food coloring. UPDATE: When winding the miniskeins I definitely noticed that my finger tips turned pink. ARGH! I don't think I've had this happen before. I did this in one container to keep the concentration consistent in each jar. [2:50] Layering things into the jars. Starting with dry yarn. Each skein had: 1 drop base red, 4 drops pink, 3 drops orange, 3 drops of yellow. Then add some of the vinegar water on top of the layerd yarn/food coloring. Adding more yellow to the top - 2 drops to each jar. [11:43] adding a bit more water and covering up the jars. let the solar dyeing being! [13:09] Sunshine! starting at 830 AM [14:39] 2:30 PM - storms are coming. [16:41] Bringing the jars inside at sundown (~730 PM) and opening up the first one. [18:49] Washing the yarn and adding more vinegar to the rinse bath.
