"The Voice of Thin Silence"

A Reflection on the Scripture Readings for the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A — August 9, 2026 Readings (NABRE): Reading 1: 1 Kgs 19:9a, 11-13a — Elijah at Horeb: wind, earthquake, fire — God is in none; then a tiny whispering sound Psalm: Ps 85:9-14 — "Kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace shall kiss" Reading 2: Rom 9:1-5 — Paul's anguish: "I could wish myself accursed for the sake of my people" Alleluia: Ps 130:5 — "I wait for the Lord; my soul waits for his word" Gospel: Mt 14:22-33 — Peter walks on water, sees the wind, begins to sink; "Lord, save me!" The hand reaches. Peace and Blessings, Deacon Minh Nguyen
