The opposition infiltrate these spaces to extort Black American cognitive energy, identity, and creative capital. They force Black American cultural content creators into a perpetual state of policing perimeter fences, explaining our right to self-govern, and all while platforming the opposition. You spend so much time and energy on the topic of tethers, that you end up reactivating the tether dynamic. You can't actively delineate from anything if your day to day operations center around creating content about the very thing you are trying to delineate from.
