Asked to name his favorite guitar player of all time, David Gilmour didn't say Jimi Hendrix.
Across sixty years of interviews, the Pink Floyd guitarist has singled out a small and strangely specific group of players — and almost none of them were chosen for speed, technique, or record sales. One of them was very nearly hired into Gilmour's own chair in Pink Floyd before Gilmour ever got the job.
This is that list, built from Gilmour's own documented words: the guitarist who taught him how to phrase a melody, the unknown session player he named alongside Clapton and Beck, the rival whose freedom he openly envied, the stranger he watched in a London club before anyone knew the name, and the man he called his favorite of all time
Who would be on your list? Drop the guitarist you think Gilmour left off in the comments, and we'll read the best ones in the next video.
