It is notoriously difficult to treat equine ocular conditions. Applying drops directly onto the surface of the eye usually causes distress to both the horse and the owner trying to apply the medication. Minor problems can soon develop into sight threatening conditions so it is vital that the correct dose of prescribed medicine is applied regularly to the affected area. The placement of a catheter under the lower eyelid (sub palpebral lavage system) facilitates this and makes far easier and a lot less stressful. This short video illustrates how this system works.
