Why You Can't Just Build an Oil Refinery Anywhere in Cities: Skylines 2
Building an oil refinery isn't as simple as dropping it wherever there's space. In this episode of Redmont, I tackle the oil industry for the first time, deliberately placing oil fields and a full refinery complex in a location that makes geographic sense for western Colorado. Using the real-world Grand Junction area as my reference, I find terrain that actually matches where oil fields exist in real life, then work through the full process of making it all look like it genuinely belongs in the landscape. From winding dirt roads up through the ravines to hiding the game's ugly default industry surfaces, to grouping the refinery, chemical plant, fuel plant, and power generator into one believable industrial complex, this one is all about making industry feel earned. We also spend time on landscape detailing, surface painting, tree placement, and begin some downtown Redmont redevelopment, including a new city hall.
