Today we're hiking the Tall Trees Grove Loop Trail in Redwoods National Park. This is a 3.7 mile, 800 ft elevation gain trail rated moderate on AllTrails, and hands down my favorite hike in the park.
This trail isn't like the others, it's access is limited to just 50 cars per day through a permit system. You can book an all-day or half-day permit (half-day permits release the day before), and once booked you'll get a gate code to access the trailhead. Because of the limit, it stays quiet and uncrowded the whole way down.
After about 30 minutes and roughly 1.2–1.3 miles in, you reach the grove itself. Once home to the Libby Tree, formerly recorded as the tallest tree on Earth. The title now belongs to the Hyperion, standing around 376 ft tall, somewhere in this same area, although its exact location isn't disclosed in order to protect it.
Walking among these giants is something else. If you only do one hike in Redwoods National Park, this is the one I'd tell you to do.
