10 Flooring Brands Only DUMB People Buy!

The flooring industry sells you a sticker. Lifetime warranty. Waterproof. AC4. The names on the boxes at Home Depot and Lowe's are names your parents trusted but the company that owns the brand today, the factory the planks come out of today, and the warranty department that processes the claim today are not the same as the ones that built that reputation. I've spent 28 years inspecting homes across the Midwest. I've pulled up flooring in 10,000 houses. I've watched the same patterns repeat in every basement, every kitchen, every laundry room. Floors marketed for thirty years failing in three. "Waterproof" planks swelling when a dishwasher line lets go. Founders buying their own companies out of bankruptcy and putting the original name back on the sign. One of the brands in this video paid a thirteen-million-dollar criminal penalty under the Lacey Act the largest in the law's history. The same company settled a class action for thirty-six million dollars covering 760,000 customers, after CBS News tested its laminate and found formaldehyde emissions at twenty times the legal limit. In 2024 it filed Chapter 11 and closed every store. Then the founder bought 219 of those stores back out of bankruptcy and put the original yellow and black sign back up. Same name. Same shelf. Another brand on this list settled a parallel case for thirty million dollars over bamboo flooring that cracked, warped, and shrunk well before the warranty period while the marketing kept pushing the "World's Hardest Floors" claim and a 50-year guarantee. I'm not naming these brands to ruin anyone's day. I'm naming them because a couple in a bungalow on Chicago's Northwest Side paid roughly $3,840 for a floor in 2013, and breathed formaldehyde for two years before they ever heard about the lawsuit. They didn't know. Most homeowners don't.
