If you are, there are some interesting facts you need to know. You will be required to learn and efficiently don your firefighter Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) in under 35 seconds. In Hazardous or fire situations, SCBA's are a firefighters life line. Without it, firefighters can become susceptible to serious injury from an airway injury to even death. Firefighters must, in a sense, be ONE with their SCBA's. They must know how the SCBA functions in and out. They must know and understand how to troubleshoot the SCBA if an unforeseen event occurs. Training with a firefighter SCBA is one of the highest priority practices that starts in the fire academy. Firefighters train to don their SCBA's in under 35 seconds to simulate having to respond to a fire emergency call swiftly without compromising the integrity of the SCBA and firefighter mask (which if not donned properly can lead to serious injury upon exposure). Typically an SCBA can be found on almost every firefighter apparatus. Bottom line is if you're a firefighter or are pursing the career of a firefighter, it is vital you understand how to operate and become ONE with your SCBA This is a skill that is tested on in the fire academy. You are allowed 35 seconds to complete the task.
