In this European history documentary, Armies of History explores the rise of the Imperial Russian Army, its organization, recruitment, weapons, commanders, battlefield tactics, and the campaigns that defined Russia’s military power. From the wars of Peter the Great to the Napoleonic Wars, Russian soldiers fought against some of the strongest armies in Europe. The army’s endurance, enormous manpower, cavalry traditions, artillery, and ability to operate across immense distances became central to the military strength of the Russian Empire.
