The veil of noon was rent by tempest-tongues of flame, And mountains bowed where prophets once proclaimed His name. Foundations shook, the covenant stone did split in twain, While cedars fell as watchmen wept upon the plain. The river fled its course, the temple stones cried out, Three nights unstarred bore witness to the world’s great drought. Lo, the circle breaks and mends by His decree, The Tree once hewn now blooms on Calv’ry’s tree. From eagle’s height to turtle’s patient floor, The woven path leads to the open door. Judgment thunders first, then mercies fall like rain, The four winds gather what the wolf would scatter, slain. The spider’s thread snapped o’er the city walls of pride, Where bear and raven once together did abide. Owl in shadow mourned the salmon’s halted stream, Butterfly wings were sealed within the stone’s cold dream. Yet deer still knelt where living waters once had run, And sun and moon together hid before the Holy One. For warnings sent by seers were cast as dross away, Till sacred mountains burned and turned the night to day. Tenors: Behold the Medicine Wheel, now broken into dust, Altos: Yet every quarter turns again to trust. Basses: The buffalo lies low, the harvest field is bare, Sopranos: But lo, the Shepherd calls from heights of purest air. Divisi: Stars unsown shall yet be reaped in dawn’s first light, When scarlet web becomes a robe of white. The covenant path lay buried neath the quaking sod, Where holy words were scorned, where men denied their God. But from the chasm rose a Voice not bound by grave, The King who counts the sparrow, mighty still to save. So let the mountains sing, let desert lilies rise, The salmon leaps again where fallen water lies. For darkness was the mantle of a world gone blind, Till Light of Christ restored the sight of humankind. Now nations turn as rivers to the sea’s embrace, The sacred circle whole, each soul in rightful place. The Tree of Life extends its boughs to east and west, The eagle bears our prayers to realms of endless rest. The bear stands guard, the wolf now sings beside the lamb, The web is mended by the weaver’s pierced hand. Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest... Amen. Nòhtsı̨ hoghàsehtǫ.
