Beyond the Coverage Question: A New Playbook for Cardiometabolic Care

Many 2027 benefits conversations about GLP-1s are still stuck on the “cover or don’t cover” question, and many cardiometabolic care conversations remain focused on individual conditions, rather than complex evolving multi-condition needs. A more complete strategy helps members before, during, and after a GLP-1 prescription––and that happens with a nuanced approach to behavior change, personalized guidance, and ongoing support. In other words, a real strategy adapts to members’ real lives, as opposed to assuming everyone’s medication adherence is perfect. This session covered three design principles that can set a cardiometabolic program apart: giving members meaningful agency and choice, providing personalized and timely guidance, and offering support that adapts to real life.
