That moment right there?
That’s not luck.
It’s not just good footage. It’s not just a great song.
That’s intentional sound design.
In this video, I’m breaking down a real 3 day Iceland elopement film I shot — volcanoes, paragliding, absolute chaos — and showing you exactly how I built the first two minutes from the ground up.
Not just dragging in a song and hoping it works, but shaping the emotion layer by layer through these 5 layers of sound design:
• Music
• Tonal sound effects
• Voiceover
• Regular sound effects
• Camera audio
We’re diving into how I reshaped a track from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, wrote a custom voiceover to drive the story, and used tonal sound effects in key to glue everything together so the entire edit feels like one cohesive piece instead of just clips with music behind them.
If your edits look good but don’t fully hit yet, this is probably what’s missing. I’ve spent the last three years building tools and a workflow to help video editors take control of emotion directly inside their timeline without needing to be composers, and this is a real look at how it all comes together.
Let me know if you want more breakdowns like this, and drop a comment with what you want me to dive into next.
