In this sentencing hearing, State of Ohio v. Frankie T. Molnar (25 CR 629), the defendant appeared before the court after pleading guilty to failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a felony of the third degree.
The court heard that Molnar fled from police at approximately 4:00 a.m., allegedly reaching 73 mph in a 35 mph zone, driving with his lights off, and running through intersections. The defense requested another opportunity for treatment, citing substance-abuse struggles and previous treatment programs.
The prosecutor highlighted Molnar's extensive criminal and traffic history, including 63 traffic offenses, prior probation violations, and a previous fleeing-and-eluding conviction.
The judge ultimately placed Molnar on 5 years of community control, imposed 180 days in jail with 86 days of credit, ordered additional treatment including NeoCap and sober living, required AA/NA meetings and a sponsor, and imposed a 10-year driver's license suspension.
The judge also warned that failure to comply with community-control conditions could result in 36 months in prison.
Watch the full courtroom exchange to hear the defendant explain why he fled, why he was driving without a valid license, and the judge's reaction to his extensive history.
