AI self-improvement is starting to move from theory into reality. New research into recursive self-improvement, autonomous AI agents, and self-improving AI systems shows machines beginning to improve their own workflows, retain experience, and participate directly in the AI training process. In this video, we explore Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s warning about frontier AI, the recent AI agent swarm incident, and a major research paper called “The Last AI Built by Humans.” The paper proposes five levels of AI self-improvement, eventually leading to a theoretical system capable of modifying its own learning process. We also examine A-Evolve-Training, an autonomous system that ran multiple rounds of post-training on a 30-billion-parameter AI model, designing experiments, analyzing results, and deciding what improvements to keep. Most surprisingly, it reportedly recognized when its own internal evaluation metric was misleading and changed its strategy. We’re not at fully autonomous recursive self-improvement or superintelligence yet.
