Andy McKee: Prince, Preston Reed, percussive playing tips, and... The Nintendo theme?

Andy McKee sits down with Guitar World's Matt Owen at Guitar Summit 2026 to talk about the Prince tour that nearly had him opening shows in a 50ft cape, and how 'Drifting' going viral on YouTube changed his life. Andy also shows how to get started with percussive acoustic playing, plays 'Rylynn' (the song that caught Prince's attention), and shares the best advice he's been given, all on a backup setup after snapping his own guitar 20 minutes before the interview. 0:00 Intro 1:19 Getting into guitar 3:16 Where to start with fingerstyle 4:01 The Nintendo theme 6:59 Percussive basics 8:03 'Drifting' 10:52 Touring with Prince 12:02 The 50ft cape 13:14 'Rylynn', the song Prince loved 16:34 Best advice Subscribe to Guitar World:    / @guitarworld   More at: Guitar World: https://www.guitarworld.com Facebook:   / guitarworld   Instagram:   / guitarworldmagazine   Twitter:   / guitarworld   TikTok:   / guitarworld_official   #AndyMcKee #Fingerstyle #AcousticGuitar #GuitarSummit2026 #Prince
