Aparigraha (The Unclaimed Path) is an original performance film inspired by the Jain principle of Aparigraha, the practice of non-possessiveness.
Often misunderstood as simply owning less, Aparigraha points toward something much deeper. It asks what happens when we loosen our grip, not only on possessions, but also on expectations, identity, certainty, fear, and the endless desire for more. Freedom begins not by adding something new, but by discovering that enough has always been present.
Built around Prakrit mantra, restrained electronic textures, earthy percussion, and a single female contralto, the music deliberately avoids excess. The arrangement remains simple and grounded, allowing space for breath, silence, and repetition to become part of the experience rather than something to be filled.
The accompanying film follows the same philosophy. Rather than telling a story or relying on symbolic imagery, it remains intimately connected to a single woman who quietly embodies the music through natural expression, movement, and presence. Set in an ordinary garden, the performance celebrates the beauty found in simplicity, familiarity, and the everyday world. Nothing spectacular needs to happen. Nothing needs to be acquired. The freedom already exists.
While rooted in Jain philosophy, the message is universal. Every culture and every life encounters the question of what is truly necessary. The lighter our grip becomes, the lighter our lives can feel.
The title, The Unclaimed Path, reflects a way of moving through life without trying to own every moment, every achievement, or every outcome. It is an invitation to walk gently, live lightly, and discover the quiet contentment that comes from releasing what was never ours to carry.
