Alex Eala has admitted she and her coach "weren't aligned" after a loss in Strasbourg, just before Roland Garros. She was sick, she fought for three sets, and she believed she hadn't played badly. Her coach disagreed.
On Maria Sharapova's Pretty Tough podcast, Eala revealed what happened next, and how that tough conversation became a wake-up call before the best months of her career: a title in Birmingham, a win over Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon, and the first WTA Tour title in Philippine history in Washington.
Now, as she heads into the Wuhan Open, the same lesson matters again.
Do you think her coach was right? Tell us in the comments, and let us know which city you're watching from. 🇵🇭
