Castello Tesino a beautiful village in Trentino Alto Adige| Biolago | North of Italy 2022

I am taking a break from our Pantelleria episodes as we're back in the incredible mountains of Trentino Alto Adige. So this weekend we have visited a surprisingly pretty village just one hour away from Trento City - the Castello Tesino or Casteltesino. The name of Castello Tesino dates back to Roman times, but there are archaeological remains that testify to the presence of the Reti in a much earlier period. The area was an excellent outpost for the Roman legions who passed on the Via Claudia Augusta , a Roman road that started from Altinum in the direction of Augusta Vindelicum (the current Augusta in Germany ) and that passed through Castello Tesino due to the marshy situation and even to the presence of a lake where the Canale di Brenta is now located . However, when around the year 800 the Canale di Brenta became uncloggedto form the current situation, the viability moved to the more comfortable and direct Valsugana , leaving the Conca del Tesino in an isolation that favored its independent character and rarely subjected to medieval lordships (the dominion of Count Biagio delle Castellare should be remembered).
