Sucharita Tyagi speaks with the cast and directors of La Bola Negra about bringing Federico García Lorca’s unfinished work and legacy to the screen. They talk about the freedom and liberation they felt while making the film, the continuing relevance of Lorca at a time when young people in Spain and around the world are demanding accountability, and how the film becomes a response to fascism, repression and the erasure of queer histories. They also discuss what they hope La Bola Negra leaves with audiences across the world, and the deeply emotional experience of recreating moments connected to Lorca, with the poet himself becoming part of the film’s story.
