If I had to improve my work presentation skills from scratch, especially as an early to mid-career professional, I would focus on only 4 things. I spent years watching YouTube videos, reading books, and listening to podcasts about public speaking and communication skills. But despite learning so much, it took me a long time to confidently present my work, communicate my value, and demonstrate my impact. If I could start over, I would do things very differently. 🎥 WANT TO GET BETTER AT STRUCTURING YOUR WORK PRESENTATIONS? Watch my video on storytelling in business presentations, where I introduce my practical 5C Framework to help you turn your ideas, research, and data into a clear, convincing story. 👉    • Storytelling in work presentations explained   Over the years, through my own experience as a consultant and working with other professionals on their presentation skills, I've learned that improving your presentations doesn't have to mean learning every public speaking technique out there. In this video, I'll share the 4 pillars I would prioritize if I had to develop my professional presentation skills all over again: *Content, Structure, Audience, and Delivery.* More importantly, I'll explain why some presentation skills make a much bigger difference in the workplace than others, especially when your goal is to communicate your expertise, influence decisions, and demonstrate the value of your work. In this video, you'll learn: The 4 essential pillars of effective business presentations. Why having a clear core message matters more than putting all your information into slides. How to structure your presentation so your audience can follow your thinking. Why understanding your audience is essential to communicating your ideas effectively. How to adapt your presentation to different stakeholders and their levels of knowledge. Why I wouldn't prioritize delivery and public speaking techniques when starting from scratch. Where to focus your time and energy to improve your presentation skills more efficiently. Whether you're a designer, researcher, consultant, project manager, or any early to mid-career professional who regularly presents projects, findings, ideas, and recommendations at work, this video will help you become more strategic about developing your presentation skills. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 – Why random public speaking advice isn't enough 00:45 – The 4 pillars of effective work presentations 01:54 – Pillar 1: Content – What do you want to say? 02:38 – Why starting with slides is a mistake 03:48 – How to define your core message 04:47 – Examples of strong core messages at work 06:24 – What consulting taught me about presentation clarity 06:59 – Pillar 2: Structure – How should you say it? 07:52 – What happens when your presentation lacks structure 09:25 – How good structure guides your audience 10:23 – Pillar 3: Audience – Who are you presenting to? 11:31 – Why presenting isn't just transferring information 12:38 – The mistake of using the same presentation for everyone 13:22 – Understanding your audience's starting point 15:07 – Why empathy makes you a better presenter 15:58 – Pillar 4: Delivery – How do you show up? 16:25 – Why I wouldn't prioritize delivery skills first 17:15 – Why delivery still matters 18:07 – What actually makes the biggest difference at work 19:11 – Recap: The 4 pillars to focus on 20:24 – Your next step: Learn business storytelling --- 📥 FREE BUSINESS STORYTELLING WORKBOOK Want to turn your next work presentation into a story worth listening to?
