You have probably heard that Stone Age people worked four hours a day and spent the rest of it lying in the sun. That number is real. It comes from an anthropologist who counted, hour by hour, what people in the Kalahari actually did. The number is also wrong — and what it left out changes the whole picture. Because once you count honestly, somebody in that camp really was doing less than everybody else. And what happened to him is not what you would expect.
