The incredible history of Cyrix : The Chip Company Intel Wanted Erased From History

Cyrix history: how this scrappy chip company challenged Intel's x86 dominance in the 1990s — then vanished. Discover the rise, rivalry, and fall of Cyrix Corporation, one of the most underrated players in CPU history. Before AMD became Intel's biggest rival, Cyrix was already shaking up the processor market with affordable, high-performance x86 chips that gave budget PC builders a real alternative to Intel's Pentium line. This video traces Cyrix's journey from its founding by former Texas Instruments engineers, through its legal battles with Intel over x86 licensing, its groundbreaking 486 and 5x86 chips, the ill-fated Cyrix 6x86 ("M1") processor, and its eventual acquisition by National Semiconductor and later VIA Technologies. We dig into why Cyrix's story often gets left out of mainstream tech history — and why its influence on the CPU market still matters today. If you're into retro computing, CPU wars, Silicon Valley history, or just love an underdog story, this one's for you. 👍 Like this video if you remember running a Cyrix chip back in the day 🔔 Subscribe for more deep dives into computing history and forgotten tech companies 💬 Let us know in the comments: did you ever own a Cyrix-powered PC? #Cyrix #IntelHistory #RetroComputing #CPUWars #TechHistory #Cyrix #IntelHistory #RetroComputing #CPUWars #TechHistory
