Fight or Flight, Patrick Cornelius Octet f. Jason Palmer and Alex Goodman

Bracing for the Worst / Fight or Flight by Patrick Cornelius This is the first movement of my 2024 suite “Sun Showers” for octet, commissioned as part of Chamber Music America’s “New Jazz Works” program. The intro “Bracing for the Worst” is meant to evoke the calm dread you feel when you know something bad is about to happen, before the rush of adrenaline triggers… “Fight or Flight.” The heart races, the senses heighten, and your gut is in the driver’s seat. This features great solos from Alex Goodman (guitar), Jason Palmer (trumpet), and me. Featuring: Jason Palmer (trumpet) Patrick Cornelius (alto saxophone / clarinet) John Ellis (tenor saxophone / bass clarinet) Nick Vayenas (trombone) Alex Goodman (guitar) Helen Sung (piano) Peter Slavov (bass) Johnathan Blake (drums) recorded at Pinch Recording, Long Island City NY in 2024 mixed by Tyler McDiarmid video by AHT Productions, New York Made possible with support from Chamber Music America's "New Jazz Works" Program funded through the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
