I lock the county records vault every night. Tuesday morning, a file request was waiting in my inbox. It had been submitted at 2:14 a.m. from the terminal inside, under my name. The access log showed I had locked up and never gone back in. The request was for all records on a stranger. I typed the name into the index. No birth. No death. No deed. Nothing.
